David Foster Wallace

David Foster, an American essayist and professor committed suicide in September of 2008 at the age of 46. His body was discovered hanging from the patio rafter of his garage. He left behind a 2 page note in which he wrote for the arranging of the pieces of the manuscript for The Pale King, his novel. After the incident, his father revealed in an interview that he had been battling depression that he had unsuccessfully try to control by using anti-depressants. Depression is considered the cause of the suicide.
