Raffi Freedman – Gurspan

Appointed by President Barack Obama in the year 2015, Raffi Freedman – Gurspan is the very first White House staff member who was open about being transgender.  She was appointed by the president in the position of his outreach and recruitment director. She was also the first transgender legislative worker who was open about her sex to work in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Raffi is a transgender rights activist and is a long term public policy specialist and advocate on matters regarding human rights, the LGBT people and gender. Currently, she works in the position of director of external relations at the Washington, DC based National Center for Transgender Equality.
