20 of the World’s Scariest Bridges

  •  Puente de Ojuela, Mexico

Also known as the Mapimi Bridge or Puente de Ojuela in Spanish, this stunning suspension bridge is located in Durango State’s Mapimi. The bridge is located right above the Ojuela Goldmine Site. Construction of the bridge was completed in 1898 but was later restored in 1991 as a tourist attraction. The main span of the bridge measures 271.5 meters and is currently only used by pedestrians. The bridge was at one time a vital utility for the mining industry in the area. The mining town beneath it used it as the primary transport structure for its minerals. Having lost a great deal of its structural integrity over the years, the bridge is currently not safe for use by trucks or other vehicles as they may not be able to make it across. It is currently considered one of the most dangerous not only in the country, but the world at large.
