The bridge was constructed between the years 1997 and 2004 and is the largest of its Kind in Japan and 3rd largest worldwide. Photos of the bridge have gone viral on the internet owing to its apparent steep elevation when captured from a distance. Despite its very steep appearance, the bridge has a gradient of just 6.1%. It extends to a height of 144 feet.
