20 of the World’s Scariest Bridges

  •  Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, Louisiana

Commonly referred to just as the Causeway, this fixed-link bridge is made of two parallel bridges that cross the Lake Pontchartrain and is located in Louisiana, United States. Of the two bridges, the longer measures 38.35km. While the southern terminus of the bridge is located in Metairie, Louisiana, its northern terminus is in Mandeville Louisiana. For support, the two bridges have 9500 concrete pilings along its entire expanse. The length of the Causeway is one of its features that make it a scary structure. Another scary element of the bridge is its short distance from the lake. At just 16 feet above the lake, drivers are likely to feel scared of the rumbling waves in the water below. It is also very long, and you will hardly see land once you are a couple of minutes from each end. It might be a stable bridge but still likely to give you the chills.
