20 of the World’s Scariest Bridges

  •  Seven Mile Bridge Florida

Located in Monroe County of Florida, the Seven Mile Bridge essentially connects Knight’s Key to Little Dick Key. At the time of its construction, it was one of the world’s longest bridges. The area hosts two bridges, the modern version that is open to vehicular traffic and the older version that is open for use by only cyclists and pedestrians. The first of the bridges was decommissioned as it obstructed ships from moving across the water since it directly sat in the water. The bridge is crafted using precast and prestressed concrete sections. In order to avert the obstruction that was caused by the initial bridge, this one has a rising arch towards the center that rises approximately 65 feet above the water to provide adequate clearance for the boat passage. The rest of the bridge is closer to the water surface. While the bridge might not be as scary, the thought of driving along it amidst a hurricane can be chilling.
